The evidence behind each check
- Snippets are not blocked. Google's generative AI guidance, updated 10 July 2026, says a page must be indexed and eligible for a Google Search snippet before it can be eligible for generative AI features. A

The tool reports its presence as information, not as an AI Overview requirement. Google's guidance says structured data is not required for generative AI search and there is no special schema.org markup to add, though it can still support ordinary rich results.
- A direct answer opens the page. Nielsen Norman Group wrote on 11 February 2018 that the most important information, or the conclusion, should come first. An opening that only sets the scene gives a reader or an engine no answer to take away.
- Headings ask or assert. Nielsen Norman Group wrote on 25 August 2019 that reading headings alone is the most effective way people scan a page. A heading read on its own should carry a question or a claim.
- Sections open by naming their subject. A passage that relies on the previous paragraph for its subject cannot stand on its own. This is a structural heuristic, not a placement signal.
- A definition can be lifted cleanly. Definitional answers appeared as short, self-contained sentences in the niche SERPs recorded on 17 August 2026. The check looks for that shape without claiming Google rewards it.
- The page and its claims are dated. A page cited in the
docs as codeAI Overview carried a publication date and a visible revision date when the result was recorded on 17 August 2026. That observation supports showing dates, not a claim that dates cause citation. - Quantified claims name a source. Google's Quality Rater Guidelines dated 10 September 2025 treat a lack of effort and first-hand experience as a Low-quality criterion. A nearby source lets a reader inspect the evidence behind a number.
- Numbers say what they count. A number loses its meaning outside the page when it does not name its unit, period, or subject.
- The page states where it does not apply. The same Quality Rater Guidelines call trust the most important part of E-E-A-T. A stated limitation gives the reader a boundary they can check.
- No placement prediction. Google states there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews and no special optimisations necessary. Nothing here forecasts inclusion.
- No weighted score. Checks are counted, not weighted, because no published calibration would justify weights. The bands are coarse deliberately.
- Heuristics can be wrong. Every check marked as a heuristic is a text pattern that will misread some valid pages. Each one shows the passage it objected to so the judgement stays yours.
- Paste mode cannot see headers. Snippet eligibility and structured data need the HTML and the response headers, so they are skipped unless you check a URL or paste full HTML source.
Extractability is not a ranking factor
Extractability describes whether a passage still makes sense after it is lifted out of its page. A useful passage names its subject, states the answer, and keeps the source, date, and unit close enough for a reader to verify the claim.

That structure helps people scan and quote a page, but Google does not call it a ranking factor. The checks here inspect the text that is present; they do not measure authority, query relevance, or the systems Google uses to assemble an AI Overview.
Snippet eligibility is the only hard gate checked here
Google's generative AI guidance, updated 10 July 2026, says a page must be indexed and eligible to appear in Google Search with a snippet. That makes snippet eligibility a documented requirement, unlike the tool's structural heuristics.
A live URL check can read the HTML and the X-Robots-Tag response header, so it can detect directives that block or restrict snippets. Paste mode cannot see response headers and skips the checks that need them.
Why this checker does not predict placement
Google states that AI Overviews and AI Mode have no additional requirements and need no special optimisation. It also says structured data is not required for generative AI search, so the presence of schema is reported as information rather than evidence of likely placement.
The result is a count of checks, not a calibrated probability. I would need published outcome data showing how much each check changes placement before a weighted score could mean anything, and that evidence does not exist for this tool.
